Who should pick SSR #
- You have 10+2 PCM with reasonable scores (50–65%).
- You enjoy general knowledge, English and basic maths.
- You want a broad sailor career with good promotion prospects without being tied to a single technical trade.
- You''re open to communications, hydrography or weapon-handling roles.
Who should pick AA #
- You have strong PCM scores (70%+ in Maths and Physics).
- You''re analytically minded and want a technical specialist career.
- You aim for higher pay due to engineering allowances and want to qualify for SCO (Special Commissioned Officer) later.
- You''re comfortable with a longer, more rigorous training pipeline.
Who should pick MR #
- You completed 10th and don''t plan to pursue 11–12.
- You''re practical and skilled with hands — cooking, hospitality or sanitation.
- You want a secure central government job at the earliest age.
- You''re willing to start from Chef-III or Steward-III and grow over time.

Career counsellor''s view from Kerala #
In our Cherthala batches we see PCM students from Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kollam districts succeed brilliantly in AA when they get focused Maths/Physics drilling. Average PCM students with strong English usually do better in SSR. Bright 10th-pass students from rural areas who can''t afford 11–12 should not hesitate to take MR — many of them retire as Master Chief Petty Officers with full pension.
