Why the Coast Guard? #

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) safeguards 7,500 km of coastline and 2 million sq km of Exclusive Economic Zone. For young men with a love for the sea, it is one of the most rewarding tri-service careers — strong pay, free housing and a guaranteed adventure.

The three entries #

Entry Education Role
Navik (General Duty) 10+2 PCM Operations, navigation, communications
Navik (Domestic Branch) 10th pass Cooking & housekeeping aboard ships
Yantrik 10+2 + Diploma in Mech / Electrical / Electronics Engineering technician

Selection stages #

  1. Stage I — Computer-Based Test (Math, Physics, English, Reasoning, GK)
  2. Stage II — Physical Fitness Test, document check, swimming test
  3. Stage III — Medical examination
  4. Stage IV — Final merit & joining at INS Chilka

The swimming question #

You must swim 50 m in basic strokes. If you have never swum, start now. Most aspirants who fail at this stage simply did not begin practising in time.

A 5-month preparation plan #

  • Month 1 — Foundation in Math (Class 11–12 PCM), 4× weekly running
  • Month 2 — English, Physics revision + start swimming lessons
  • Month 3 — Mock CBTs every Sunday
  • Month 4 — PFT peak: 1.6 km in <7 min, 20 squat-ups, 10 push-ups
  • Month 5 — Stage 2 simulation, document checklist, medical readiness

How SCFE prepares you #

Our Indian Coast Guard coaching program covers all four stages with a partner pool for swimming sessions. We also coach for the closely related Indian Navy SSR/AA entries.

Final word #

The Coast Guard does not ask for genius — it asks for fitness, focus and follow-through. Build all three over five disciplined months and you walk out with the white uniform.
