Since 2022, the Indian Armed Forces have recruited soldiers, sailors and airmen primarily through the Agnipath scheme, with selected candidates joining as Agniveers. Many parents still have questions. This guide answers them honestly.

What is the Agnipath scheme? #

A 4-year tenure in the Army, Navy or Air Force, after which:

  • 25% of Agniveers are retained in regular service for full pension careers
  • 75% exit with a one-time Seva Nidhi package of ~₹11.71 lakh, skill certificates, and priority in CAPF / state police recruitment

Eligibility (Army Agniveer GD) #

  • Age: 17.5–21 years
  • Education: Class 10 with 45% (50% in each subject)
  • Physical: 1.6 km run in 5:30 mins, 10 pull-ups, 9-feet ditch jump

Pay during 4 years #

  2. Physical Fitness Test (PFT) at the rally site

What if my child is not retained after 4 years? #

Even the 75% who exit after four years are not at zero. They get:

  • A tax-free Seva Nidhi corpus
  • A skill certificate equivalent to Class 12 / diploma
  • 10% reservation in CAPFs (CRPF, BSF, etc.)
  • Reservation in Coast Guard, Defence PSUs, several state police forces
  • Priority in many private sector security and logistics jobs

How to prepare your child #

  • 6 months of structured PFT training — running, pull-ups, agility
  • Written exam coaching — General Knowledge, Maths, Reasoning, Science
  • Documentation discipline — domicile, caste, education certificates
  • Mental conditioning — independence, discipline, time management
