SSB Interview Preparation: The 5-Day Test, OLQs and How to Crack It
What really happens across the 5 days of an SSB Interview — screening, psychology, GTO, personal interview and conference. Plus a 60-day OLQ-building plan.
In this article
The SSB Interview is the single biggest filter in any defence selection — and the most misunderstood. This is not a written test you can mug up for. It is a 5-day behavioural assessment designed to find Officers, not toppers.

- WAT (Word Association Test) — 60 words in 15 minutes

A 60-day OLQ-building plan (do this before you reach the SSB centre) #
- Daily news habit — read The Hindu / Indian Express + watch one defence-affairs video
- Public speaking — 3-minute lecturette on a random topic, daily
- Physical fitness — 2.4 km run under 12 minutes, 10 push-ups, 20 squats
- Story practice — 2 TAT-style positive stories per day
- WAT/SRT drills — 20 words and 10 situations daily
- Group exposure — debates, NCC, sports, anything that puts you in a team
Common reasons candidates get rejected #
- Faking answers in the Personal Interview (Officers can spot this in seconds)
- Trying to dominate the Group Discussion instead of contributing
- Negative or violent SRT/WAT responses
- Poor physical bearing and grooming
